We are an alternative to twin-family monopoly, says Sajad Lone

Srinagar: Emerging as strong contender in the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, Sajad Lone, the Chairman of People’s Conference (PC), today said that his party is ready for the upcoming assembly elections, and is an alternative to “twin-family monopoly” of National Conference (NC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Lone was speaking to reporters during a press conference in Srinagar, where he welcomed former PDP leader Imran Reza Ansari in the party. He said that Ansari’s entry in the party is a big boost to their “mission of freeing the state from the clutches of corrupt and patristic political monopoly, which created the havoc in the peac.”

Ansari was a cabinet minister in the previous coalition government of the PDP-BJP led by the then chief minister Mehbooba Mufti. He later distanced himself from the PDP as the BJP pulled its support from the government on 19 June.

“Twin-family monopoly will end, politics of blackmail has no takers,” said Lone, while flanked by Ansari on his side. “The partnership of NC-PDP to stay reflects their shared guilt.”

He also said that the PC has emerged as an alternative to the traditional politics of exploitation and misrule practiced by the twin-family political monopoly to expedient ideology ambiguity to deprive the state peace and prosperity.

While attacking on Mehbooba Mufti for claiming the government in the state, Lone said, “If Mehbooba ji wants to challenge the dissolution of the assembly in the Hon’ble courts, she should go ahead and do it. We would be more than glad to prove our numbers on the floor of the assembly.”

As the PDP had claimed that attempt to stake claim for government formation was to safeguard the special status of the Jammu and Kashmir, Lone hit back today saying that “this hobnobbing of pampered dynasties has nothing to do with article 35A.”

“The sanctity of article 35A is non-negotiable for every citizen of the state and the matter is sub-judice and has to be fought in the Supreme Court,” he said. “These dynasties sitting on a pile of state’s protocols, entitlements and benevolence on Gupkar road can continue to throw tantrums but to hide those tantrums behind the smokescreen of article 35A is ridiculous even for their petulant standards.”

Lone also added that he has been questioned for tying up with BJP. “It’s not a crime. The process of joining the BJP bandwagon started with Omar Abdullah, who was a poster boy for Vajpayee government. What about Mehbooba ji, she was in power for last three years with the help of BJP only,” he asked.
