Srinagar: Thousands attended the funeral prayers of the two Hizbul Mujahideen militants that were killed by the government forces in an encounter in Tikken area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday early morning.
“Amid Pro-freedom slogans, the funeral prayers were held in multiple rounds as there was huge rush of people from adjoining areas of Pulwama,” locals said. “Militants also reached at the funeral and offered gun salute.”
The two militants, Liyaqat Ahmad Wani, and Wajid Ahmad were killed on the Saturday morning in a gunfight with government forces after forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in Tikken area of Pulwama district based on specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
Police has also advised people for remaining away from the encounter site as there can be stray explosives that can be dangerous for people.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed in all areas of Pulwama district over the fresh spate of killings.
Authorities have also suspended the internet services in the area as “precautionary measures.”
