Shutdown in Shopian, Pulwama after militants’ killing

Srinagar: Following the killing of two Al Badr militants, a complete shutdown is being observed in south Kashmir’s Shopian and Pulwama district today.

Two militants, Nawaz Ahmad Wagay of Rebban Zainapora, Shopian and Yawar Wani of Batnoor Litter Pulwama – both from the Al Badr outfit, were killed in brief encounter with the government forces before dawn.

As per reports and eyewitnesses’ account, public transport is off the roads, while as all the shops and other commercial establishments are closed in the districts.

The gunfight broke out in the Rebban village of Shopian after the government forces laid a cordon and search operation that led to killing of the militants.

Reports said that a joint team of Army’s 1RR, CRPF and SOG Shopian cordoned off Rebon area of Zainapora after having specific information about presence of some militants in the area.

As the joint team of forces zeroed on to the suspected house the hiding militants fired upon government forces triggering an encounter.

A Senior Police officer said that the two militant bodies have been recovered along with one AK-47 and a Pistol from the encounter site.
