The topmost commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Naveed Jatt is said to be among two militants killed in an encounter at Chattergam area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district. It was a joint operation by 50 RR of the Indian army, SOG, and CRPF.
Earlier, it was reported that two militants were killed while three army men have been injured in the encounter.
The forces had laid a siege around the Chatergam area after receiving credible inputs about the presence of two militants in the area, who during the search operation opened fire upon forces, triggering a gunfight.
Among the slain militants, Naveed Jatt, the commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba has been killed, Times Now reported.
Jatt was accused of assassinating veteran journalist Syed Shujaat Bukhari on June 14 this year outside his office in Lal Chawk, Srinagar.
Meanwhile, mobile internet services have been suspended in Budgam district, while train service has been suspended across Kashmir.
