Four militants’ funeral prayers after Shopian gunfight

Srinagar: Thousands attended the funeral prayers of four Hizb ul Mujahideen militants, who were killed in the Shopian gunfight with the government forces in South Kashmir on Tuesday early morning.

Amid pro-freedom and pro-Pakistan slogans, the funeral prayers were held at different locations as huge crowd from adjoining areas had participated in the last rites of the militants.

Militants were killed in a gunfight in Naidigam village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district. The gunfight ensued before dawn in the village after government forces laid a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the village following specific inputs about the presence of militants.

The slain militants all belonging to militant outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen have been identified as  Mehraj ud Din, son of Ab Ahad Najar, a resident of Drawani; Abid Nazir Chopan, son of Nazir Ahmed Chopan, a resident of Padderpora and Anam ul haq, son of Mubarak Hussain, a resident of Motiju in south Kahsmir and Basarat Ahmad Neegro, son of Abdul Rashid Negroo, a resident of Chotigam.

An army para-commando was also killed in the gunfight while three forces personnel were injured.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was being observed in all areas of Shopian and Pulwama district over the fresh spate of killings.
