Police withdraws SPOs performing PSO duties of ‘protected’ persons

The Jammu and Kashmir police has ordered withdrawing of special police officers  (SPO) performing duties of Personal Security Officers of protected persons following decamping of an with nine service weapons from the residence of a People’s Democratic (PDP) MLA in Srinagar.

“It has been observed that some SPOs are performing PSO duties and all SPOs except SPO drivers, presently attached with protected persons be immediately withdrawn,” reads the order sent to all district SSPs and SSP Security Jammu/Kashmir.

The  Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) has also ordered that henceforth no unit/district SSP shall deploy any SPO for personal security officer duties.

Besides, Range DIGs have been asked to furnish list of all SPOs to the headquarters by October 5 ‘positively’ . “In case any SPO not reports back, honorarium may not be released and nominal roll of such SPOs be furnished to this headquarter so that their disengagement orders are issued.” The order further reads a copy of which lies with The Kashmir Walla.

Police has  constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) as it has sent entire security establishment into a tizzy

The SIT will investigate how the plan to loot weapons from the official residence of a legislator in Srinagar was executed by the special police officer Adil Bashir, a resident of Zainapora Shopian.
