Kreeri gunfight: After IED blast, intense exchange of fire continues

The exchange of firing between militants and government forces started again even as forces detonated an IED blast at the encounter site in Kreeri village of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Eyewitnesses told The Kashmir Walla that even after the IED blast, militants and government forces exchanged gunfire, “Militants are firing towards forces personnel from the house where two militants are holed up,” an eyewitness said.

Earlier reports said that two militants were killed in the gunfight at Athoora area of Kreeri. However the officer said that the identity and group affiliation of slain militants are being ascertained.

The gunfight broke out after a joint team of army’s 52 RR, SOG and CRPF had launched a cordon and search operation at Athoora area of Kreeri village
