Handwara gunfight: Clashes erupt near the site

Srinagar: In the on going gunfight between suspected militants and government forces, clashes have started between youth and forces near the site in Qalamabad area of Handwara district of North Kashmir.
The forces had launched a cordon before dawn after specific intelligence input about the presence of militants in the area.
Speaking to the Inspector General of Police, S. P. Pani earlier told The Kashmir Walla there is no confirmation of militants been killed but the search operation was going on.
Eyewitnesses near the gunfight site told The Kashmir Walla over phone that the youth have assembled near the site, throwing stones at the government forces, leading to massive clashes.
Rumours have been making rounds since early morning that Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) scholar Mannan Wani of Hizbul Mujahideen was trapped in the gunfight. No one has confirmed his presence.
Meanwhile, authorities ordered closure of schools in various parts of Kashmir and also told Islamic University to remain shut.
