PDP passes resolution, decides to ‘stay away’ from upcoming elections

The People Democratic Party on Monday passed a resolution while deciding that the party was going to stay away from the electoral excercise.

The party passed the resolution during the meeting at it’s headquarters in Srinagar.

“It was felt that any attempt to impose any electoral excercise in the current atmosphere of fear and apprehension would erode the credibility of the process and intuitions. It would defeat the very purpose of it,” the resolution read.

Adding that the situation created by linking local bodies election with the case pending in the Supreme court about the much debated article 35-A had created serious apprehensions in the minds of people who see it as an assault on special constitutional position of the state.

“The party feels that while the special status of Jammu and Kashmir is a matter of survival for its people and democratic system is its sustenance,” the resolution stated.

The party urged the government to review its decision to hold local bodies elections at this venture against the will of people and instead focus on confidence building measures.
