Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said that people of Jammu and Kashmir rejected elections and said only right to self-determination was the solution to Kashmir issue.
“We reject elections in Kashmir, no matter if they are general or municipal elections. The message is clear to India that only solution is right to self determination,” Mirwaiz said while addressing people during the Friday prayers in Kashmir’s historical Jama Masjid.
“Our slogan is no election only right to self determination,” he said.
Mirwaiz slammed the ‘suppression’ of Kashmiris saying that coercion arrogance and military has never succeeded in suppressing people’s just political movements across the globe, “Kashmir rejects all so called elections, this dispute has to be resolved politically in keeping with people’s will and choice by granting them their inalienable right to self-determination,” he stated.
Mirwaiz was reacting to the scheduled local body elections slated to be held in October. The two prominent mainstream parties the National conference and People’s Democratic Party have decided to boycott the elections saying time was not ripe for the same to be held.
