Families of two militants allege forces set houses on fire

One of the houses set on fire by the government forces, as alleged by the militant's family.

Srinagar: The family of Lashkar e Toiba militant Shahjahan Mir alleged that their house in Amishipora Shopian, was set on fire that resulted in damage to the house by the army in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

According to one of the family members of Shahjahan, the army 23 para (based at Reshnagri Shopian) allegedly barged their house and said that they want to search the house. The arrival of the army in the vicinity of the house made all family members fearful. The older folks requested them to not harm their family.

“They barged into our house and went upstairs, sprinkled gunpowder in the whole area and set the house on fire,” a family member said. “Once we saw the house burning, we started crying for help. Neighbors helped us to douse the flames.”

Another family of militant Naveed Shah of Nazneenpora Shopian also alleged that the government forces set their house on fire, damaging household items and one room completely burnt.

Earlier, a few such cases were also reported from south Kashmir where families allege army of vandalizing their property.
