At the stroke of the midnight hour, when India slept, Kashmir would awake to blood and wails. On 1 March 2015, Mufti Mohammed Syed took the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister’s office in hands. Kashmir was witnessing ‘a historic experiment’ of falling under ‘democratic’ hands of BJP-PDP and leaving the shadow of Governor N N Vohra after 49 days of the ruptured verdict of the 2014 Assembly election.

In Kashmir conflict, amid the polar political ideologies, loaded with guns, civilians have lost their lives in large numbers; large enough to call it a ‘Mayhem’.

So, the ‘Kashmir Mayhem’ left 49 civilians dead in 2015 after the government took the charge in March. By then, they had only handled the state of Jammu and Kashmir for 10 months; a lot worse was about to come.

Following the sudden demise of the then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, his daughter, Mehbooba Mufti inherited the chair on 4 April 2016 and promised to accomplish ‘Mufti Saheb’s dream’. 2016 dug 146 civilian graves.

Considering Mufti’s dream and killings totally unrelated, on 8 July, government forces carried out a co-incidental encounter which left Burhan Wani dead. The Valley mourned for months, still does, in and around graveyards or sitting inside houses due to the continuous curfew for at least three months.

While 2017 was milder in comparison to previous ones; it left 81 civilians dead.

Sometimes losing to the smoke of tear gas, while the other times to metal of the bullets; civilian kept going under the soil.

The Kashmir Walla has compiled the list of all civilians killed while the state of Jammu and Kashmir was governed by the ‘historic alliance’ of BJP and PDP. We believe that lives are not mere numbers; name matters.

When the coalition ended on 19 June, when BJP dumped PDP, the blame game ended; but bloodshed did not.

News headlines read 10 dead, 12 dead, 20 dead: we remember the name. We want you to shuffle through the timeline of three years read the names and how they lost to a single dream, resisting for Kashmir.
