A freelance journalist, Muheet ul Islam, was thrashed by paramilitary forces personnel while on his way to Fateh Kadal to report the funeral procession of Qaiser Ahmed Bhat, a civilian mowed down by forces’ vehicle in Srinagar on Friday.
While on his way to civilian’s residence in Fateh Kadal, Muheet was stopped at the barricade by the CRPF. A verbal quarrel was followed by thrashing with batons.
Talking to The Kashmir Walla, Muheet said, “When I was stopped by the CRPF personnel at Bohri Kadal, I told them that I’m a journalist but they didn’t even check my press card and they started abusing me. I asked them to do their duty and let me do mine.”
“CRPF men abused me; Be*****od, Har**mi, Sa**ey. What if you are a journalist, what will you do?” he added.
As told by Muheet, the CRPF tried to vandalise his two-wheeler vehicle and hit him with batons on his arms, shoulders and legs.
“The Kashmir police and a few CRPF men came from another side to my rescue. And one among them also apologized. They took the photographs of my election ID and said it is for proof,” added Muheet, who was recovering from pain and bruises at home.
