Intense clashes were reported from parts of Kashmir between forces and protesters following the Friday prayers.
Reports from the Nowhatta area of downtown Srinagar city said that soon after the Friday prayers were over, youths started marching to protest against the mowing down of the youth, Qaiser, by CRPF vehicle who later succumbs to his injuries.
On the encounter with forces, the youth threw stones while forces retaliated using pellets and teargas shells. The youths were raising anti-India and pro-freedom slogans during the rally.
Other massive clashes broke out between the youth and government forces in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district who took to streets to protests against the Israeli occupation of Jerusalem and Palestine. The forces deployed in Reshi bazaar area of the main town fired several tear-gas canisters to disperse the protesting youth, triggering clashes in the area.
Earlier this week, JRL comprising leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik called for the observance of “Al-Qudus and Kashmir Day” in support of Palestinian cause and freedom.
