Clashes erupt at Pulwama encounter site, civilians injured

An encounter has erupted at Chatpora area in South Kashmir’s Pulwama District on Friday afternoon. According to the reports, 55RR of Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu Kashmir police are jointly conducting the encounter.

Earlier forces had launched a cordon and search operation in the area. The hiding militants opened fire upon the troops, triggering a gunfight.

According to the initial reports, a top Lashkar-e-Taiba’s commander is believed to be trapped at the encounter site along with three associates.

Soon, massive Clashes have erupted in the area as hundreds of youth from the nearby villages have reached Chatpora area shouting pro-freedom and pro-Islam slogans.

The youth hurled stones on Government Forces who in retaliation fired tear smoke shells to disperse the protesting youth. The clashes were going on when this report was filed while intermittent firing was on.
