In Srinagar’s Bemina area 19 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were injured in a road accident after the driver lost control of the vehicle near Bemina headquarters of the paramilitary forces.

Varied reports have been coming in about the incident as the CRPF claimed the driver lost control due to coming under stone throwing but police have said that the CCTV footage shows the driver lost control.

“19 CRPF personnel have received injuries,” a police official was quoted saying by the PTI. “The injured were taken to JVC Hospital nearby where from seven of them were shifted to the Army’s Base Hospital here. One of the CRPF personnel is critical as he has received an injury in the spinal cord and is being shifted to New Delhi for specialised treatment.”

According to reports, the accident happened around 5 am. One of the 21 personnel on-board is critically injured.

The SSP Srinagar Imtiaz Ismail Parray also said,“The CCTV footage was procured and it is clearly seen that the driver lost control which resulted in the mishap.”

However, the IG CRPF Ravideep Sahi, quoted by GNS news agency, said, “Some miscreants pelted stones on the vehicle, causing the accident”

The CCTV footage, however, shows the CRPF vehicle hitting a divider.

Meanwhile, some Delhi-based news channel journalists and social media users have accused that stone throwing led to the accident despite police denying it. Major Gaurav Arya, who hosts a show on Republic TV channel, claimed the vehicle was attacked by the stone throwers.

Anoter Twitter user claimed that the Jammu and Kashmir government is “not helping brave forces in Kashmir.”

The story will be updated as more details come in.
