JRL calls for shutdown in Kashmir on 9, 11 Feb

‘Struggle of Maqbool Butt, Afzal Guru remains beacon of light for nation’

Srinagar: Announcing its protest programme to commemorate the death anniversaries of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afazl Guru, the joint resistance leadership (JRL) has appealed people to observe complete shutdown on 9th and 11th February 2018.

In a press statement issued here, the leadership comprising of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Muhammad Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, said, “The struggle and sacrifices rendered by Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru is a glorious chapter of our resistance history. India not only hanged these Kashmiris at gallows but also has kept their mortal remains under its custody till now. The struggle, passion for freedom and sacrifices of these great Kashmiris will always remain a beacon light for Kashmiri nation.”

Giving further details about the protest, the press release read, “On 9th February, besides complete shutdown, protests will be held at various places demanding the mortal remains of the leaders. On 11th also besides a complete and comprehensive strike, people of Kashmir will march to UN office Sonwar and present a memorandum to UN secretary general and demand the return of mortal remains of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru.”

The leadership has appealed the people of the State to make the protest program successful. (KNS)
