Death toll in Nepal earthquake has crossed 3,300 on Monday. Officials have warned that the number of casualties could rise as rescue teams reach remote mountainous areas of western Nepal.
Over 5,000 people were also injured in the earthquake and the dozen aftershocks that continued till today, with the strongest measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale. Rescuers have been hunting for survivors under heaps of debris with bare hands as well as heavy equipment though the efforts have been hampered due to fresh tremors and thunderstorms.
Thousands of injured earthquake survivors are being treated at public hospitals in Kathmandu and the lakeside town of Pokhara, and tens of thousands of people are in need of shelter.
India’s death toll from the powerful earthquake in the Himalayan nation has reached 66, with nearly 260 injured. –
