In a candid admission, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Monday said that he failed to realize the dream that his grandfather had seen about the empowerment of Panchayati Raj in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that from past five and a half years, he did not succeed fully as far as the implementation and empowerment of Panchyati Raj Institution was concerned. He however said that his government has already sanctioned Rs 70 crore as first installment for the empowerment of Panchayats in the state.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines after inaugurating Panchayti houses in Central Kashmir’s Kichpara area of Kangan town of Ganderbal district, Omar Abdullha lamented that the construction and development projects started during the rule of UPA could not be inaugurated by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. “The developmental projects that were started during the rule of UPA are being inaugurated by present BJP government. I would have felt happy if these projects would have been inaugurated by Manmohan Singh,” he said.

Responding to a query about the allegations leveled by Bartiya Janta Party (BJP) president Amit Shah, the Chief Minister said that National Conference has nothing to do with the BJP and in future it will never on earth forge any alliance with this party.

Responding to a question he said that after the defeat in Parliament elections, National Conference at that very time realized the folly and decided to contest elections on its own. “Both National Conference and Congress party will contest elections on their own and there will be no alliance between the two,” he said.

Expressing concern over the ceasefire violation along Line of Control (LoC), Omar said that the ultimate sufferers of these violations are the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “I am concerned and feel sorry the way ceasefire violations are taking place along Line of Control. Both the countries must work for the peace and progress and these violations must stop,” he said. (CNS)
