Showing solidarity to Kashmir, students from various universities and activist organizations held a protest demonstration against the killing of six unarmed civilians in Ramban district of Indian-controlled Jammu and Kashmir. At Jantar Mantar, New Delhi today, the place roared with slogans and support to the ongoing freedom movement of Kashmir.
Six unarmed civilians were killed and 45 injured when Indian forces opened fire, in Ramban on Thursday, at a protest demonstration which was against the alleged desecration of Holy Quran by the forces in a local madrassa (seminary).
Slogans like “Kashmir ki Galiyan sooni hain, AFSPA khooni hai” (Streets in Kashmir are deserted, AFSPA is murderer) were reverberating. Many students and activists addressed to the gathering on punishing the Border Security Force (BSF) for the killing the civilians. One speaker stated, “If Kashmir is part of India then how come Indians don’t support them when it comes to their right?”
Another youth, a Law student at University of Delhi, Rayees Sikandar said, “Let me make it clear the main cause for which we are fighting is Aazadi [freedom] and Kashmir is not part of India nor it has ever been. I request you all not to change the facts. We have seen such massacres since nineties it is just an addition to them and we will keep struggling for our freedom till we don’t achieve it.”
The activist and student organisations who attended the demonstration were Jamia Millia Students Solidarity, Jamia Millia Teachers Solidarity Association, JNU students, Save Sharmila Solidarity Campaign, Mission Bharatiyan, Campus Front of India, All India Students Association and RYA.
