A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel of India beat up a police Head Constable with gun butts. The policeman was beaten to pulp in South Kashmir’s Khudweni area of Kulgam when he stopped the CRPF men from firing directly at protestors.

“I am injured. They beat me ruthlessly but I didn’t allow them to fire directly on people,” Reyaz Ahmed Khandey, the police Head Constable told a news agency.

According to reports, soon after Friday prayers, hundreds of people assembled in Rohpora area of Khudweni and raised anti-India slogans. Agitated youth pelted stones on police and CRPF personnel. Panic gripped in the area when the CRPF personnel from 163 D Battalion started aerial firing.

“Even after the aerial firing, protestors continued to pelt stones on us. CRPF personnel continuously argued with me and threatened me of dire consequences in case police didn’t allow them to fire on protestors but I didn’t allow them. Soon after they caught hold of me and hit me with gun butts in full public glare,” Khandey said, adding further that he is happy that he saved so many human lives and followed the instructions of their seniors.

Eyewitnesses told the news agency that a senior police officer present there flee from the spot and he made no attempt to save the policeman from the clutches of the CRPF personnel.
