Asking people to assemble at historical Eidgah on Friday in Srinagar, Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani has urged Government of India to return the mortal remains of Afzal Guru to his family. He also called for return of mortal remains of Maqbool Bhat who was hanged at Delhi’s Tihar Jail in 1984.
While accusing the state of continued restrictions and atrocities resulting in killings of youth, Geelani extended the shutdown call till Friday. He said they were left with no other option but to extend the strike ‘as it is the only option oppressed people of Kashmir can resort to’.
He said that being under house arrest is not a new thing to him. “It is the worst act of Delhi Police. I’ve been put under house arrest in Kashmir but Police remained outside of my house premises but the Delhi Police has entered into my room and has stayed inside the room”, said Geelani.
He called upon people in Poonch, Doda and Rajouri districts to come out in support of the ongoing movement. (KNS)
