Kashmiri students who are being enrolled under Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme Monday alleged that counseling team of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) is forcing them to get enrolled in their own preferred private colleges of Haryana and Punjab. AICTE counseling team, which have been providing counseling to Kashmiri students under PMSSS at SP College Srinagar from past three days have invited 9000 students for the available 5000 seats. The students who received counseling from the AICTE team headed by Director R.S.Rathore alleged that they have not been given any choice with regard to the selection of colleges.

The Jammu and Kashmir state legislative Assembly Speaker, Mubarak Gul Thursday appealed to the Centre and Chief Ministers of other states in India to ensure safety and protection of Kashmiri students who are studying in their respective states. Gul made the appeal after opposition PDP MLA Mansoor Hussain, quoting media reports, said some Kashmiri students in a Punjab college were thrashed by native students for watching Pakistan – Sri Lanka cricket match. Twelve students including six Kashmiri students studying in Swami Parmanand College of Engineering and Technology in Chandigarh sustained injuries, after the tussle occurred inside the Hostel block ‘A’ between local students and some Kashmiri students who were watching the cricket match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at 11pm on Tuesday.
