More than 5,000 people have lost their lives in the disastrous earthquake that hit Nepal on Saturday, 25th April. 18 people were killed at a base camp on Mount Everest, while 61 died in neighboring India.

Rescue operations are on but still scores of people are trapped under tonnes of rubble in Kathmandu and some of the worst-affected remote mountainous areas.

Currently 16 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are in the Himalayan nation and are working in close coordination with Nepalese authorities.

The earthquake has been termed as one of the worst in over 80 years which was followed by 55 aftershocks.

Renu Fotedar Kashmiri-Australian Renu Fotedar, has been killed in the avalanche on Mount Everest following the earthquake in Nepal, says Dreamers Destination – a trekking company. The avalanche also killed 19 other people. The company has confirmed that the body of Fotedar is being taken to Kathmandu. The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade tonight confirmed Fotedar’s death. The Sky News reported today that a representative of Dreamers Destination said Fotedar’s body had been recovered. “She’s on the way to Kathmandu right now. Five people, including two children, were killed when buildings collapsed in different parts of Bihar following a massive earthquake that hit several places across India and Nepal on Saturday. Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs says more than 150 people have died in the capital, Kathmandu, following a 7.9 magnitude earthquake, CNN reported. The epicentre of the earthquake is in Lamjung in Nepal. Nitish Kumar, who reached Delhi on Friday evening, is expected to soon return to Patna.
