An earthquake measuring 5.5 magnitude on the richter scale jolted various parts of Pakistan’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province today, triggering panic among the people. According to the meteorological department, the epicenter of the earthquake was the area of Tajikistan-Pakistan border and its depth was 144 km, Dawn online reported. The tremor was felt in Malakand, Swat, Upper and Lower Dir districts of the province. The quake came days after a powerful 7.9 temblor jolted Nepal and neighboring areas in China and India, leaving thousands dead and scores injured. Death toll has risen to 44 in Peshawar windstorm that tore through Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province in northwest Pakistan on Sunday.

200 people have been reported injured including 100 children.

“At least 44 people have been killed and 202 wounded. The storm followed by heavy rain and hailstorm has severely damaged wheat crops and orchards,” provincial information minister Mushtaq Ghani said on Monday.
