Where does one even start describing the scale of the devastation that has hit Nepal? It’s been five days as I write this, and every day brings out a tragedy on a magnitude that is simply beyond human to comprehend. More than 5,000 people have lost their lives in the disastrous earthquake that hit Nepal on Saturday, 25th April. 18 people were killed at a base camp on Mount Everest, while 61 died in neighboring India.

Rescue operations are on but still scores of people are trapped under tonnes of rubble in Kathmandu and some of the worst-affected remote mountainous areas.

Currently 16 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are in the Himalayan nation and are working in close coordination with Nepalese authorities.

The earthquake has been termed as one of the worst in over 80 years which was followed by 55 aftershocks.

A day after deadly earthquake devastated Nepal, fresh tremors have been felt in parts of northern India including Delhi and Bihar, Indian media reported.

According to United States Geological Survey (USGS), the tremors measured 6.7 on the Richter scale; the epicentre of today’s earthquake was 80 km east of Nepal’s capital Kathmandu.

The massive earthquake of 7.9 magnitude that hit Nepal on Saturday has left more than 1,807 people dead and 4,721 injured. The quake has killed 70 in Rasuwa, 57 in Kavre, 40 in Gorkha, 35 in Dhading, 10 in Okhaldhunga, nine in Makwanpur, six in Sunsari and two each in Bhojpur and Solukhumbu. Nearly 550 Indians have been evacuated by the IAF from earthquake-hit Nepal. Death toll  in the massive earthquakes that rocked Nepal Saturday has risen to 618. Tremors of the quake which measured 7.9 on the Richter scale were felt in Bangladesh, Pakistan and in the northern states of India including Delhi, NCR, Bihar, and West Bengal.

An official of the Nepal home ministry confirmed the death toll on an Indian News channel. He said there had been massive damage at the epicentre.

In North and eastern part of India and at least 23 people have died in India due to the massive earthquake that hit Nepal, Money Control reported.

The epicentre of the earthquake is in Lamjung in Nepal.
