Death toll in soaring heatwave sweeping across India has crossed 1,400, CNN reported. With temperatures nearing 50C, nearly 12, 00 people have died in the worst-hit state of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Deaths have also been reported in Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat and some other parts of the country. “The heat wave is likely to subside marginally on Thursday and Friday, when stray dust storms or thundershowers are expected. But maximum temperatures will not fall substantially,” B.P. Yadav, the director of the India Meteorological Department, told the Times of India. In New Delhi, forecasters believe the high temperatures will continue into next week.

An earthquake of 7.4 magnitude jolted Nepal today afternoon at 12.35 pm. Tremors were also felt across North India including, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Reuters reported that the quake’s epicentre was close to Everest Base Camp in Nepal. Tremors caused panic among the People in Kathmandu, who immediately rushed outdoors for safety. However, there were no immediate reports of any damage or casualties. The USGS has also reported about another quake with its epicentre in Afghanistan measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale.

A day after deadly earthquake devastated Nepal, fresh tremors have been felt in parts of northern India including Delhi and Bihar, Indian media reported.

According to United States Geological Survey (USGS), the tremors measured 6.7 on the Richter scale; the epicentre of today’s earthquake was 80 km east of Nepal’s capital Kathmandu.

Several students in the capital city of India protested outside the Uttar Pradesh Bhawan against the harassment and eviction of 67 Kashmiri students at the Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut and the slapping of sedition charges.
