Having come under sharp criticism for evoking Public Safety Act (PSA) against Hurriyat (G) leader Masarat Alam Bhat, the People’s Democratic Party have come out in defense of the decision saying there is a line  for separatists and they shouldn’t cross it. The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) government at the centre is considering to withhold all government advertisement to 10 Urdu and English language newspapers in Jammu and Kashmir. An analysis carried out by security agencies have indicated that these papers, Urdu and English, have been taking an anti-India stand in the Valley, Economic Times reported. A survey has pointed out that the contents in these publications are “detrimental to national interest,” the report added. A final decision on the matter will be taken after The Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity holds consultations with the Information & Broadcast Ministry.

Lawyer of jailed Hurriyat (G) leader Masarat Alam, Shabir Ahmed Bhat has alleged that the government is using Public Safety Act as a tactic to keep Alam behind bars. “The government failed to produce any evidences against Masrat Aalam during the trial in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Budgam on Wednesday and the chances were bright that he would be bailed out on Saturday.
