Kashmir’s journalist fraternity today remembers “the gentleman of the tribe” – a fearless journalist, Izhar Wani on his second death anniversary. Izhar, Bureau Chief of Agence France Presse (AFP) in the region, died of Cancer on 4 April 4 2012 at the age of 46. He had joined journalism after college, and in 1991 joined AFP to serve there till he passed away. He was widely known for his humility, courage and professional attitude. Srinagar/Jammu, April 04 –  Izhar Wani, Special correspondent AFP passed away here today at SKIMS in Srinagar after brief illness. He was 41. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and parents. It may be mentioned here that  Izhar Wani, who was operated in a Mumbai hospital last year, was again admitted in S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) last week where he died today afternoon. Izhar Wani, the Srinagar bureau head of Agence France- Presse (AFP), died today at Soura hosiptal here, where he was battling cancer. He was 46. Wani was one of the finest and seasoned Kashmiri journalist to report from the region over the last nearly two decades. He extensively covered the Kashmir conflict and reported the battle of Kargil between Indian and Pakistani forces in 1999. He was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2010, after which he remained hospitalised for many months and had shown signs of recovery.
