Nepal Quake: Death toll crosses 5,000

More than 5,000 people have lost their lives in the disastrous earthquake that hit Nepal on Saturday, 25th April. 18 people were killed at a base camp on Mount Everest, while 61 died in neighboring India.

Rescue operations are on but still scores of people are trapped under tonnes of rubble in Kathmandu and some of the worst-affected remote mountainous areas.

Currently 16 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are in the Himalayan nation and are working in close coordination with Nepalese authorities.

The earthquake has been termed as one of the worst in over 80 years which was followed by 55 aftershocks.
