At least 1800 sites of different telecommunication companies are non-functional all across Kashmir resulting in communication breakdown. Sources told CNS that out of 1400 sites, 650 sites of Bharti Airtel are not in operation while out of 1100 sites, 619 Aircel sites are non-functional. There are 486 2G sites of BSNL in Kashmir Valley out of which 129 sites are down while out of 207 3G BSNL sites 70 are non-operational due to recent attacks and threats on people associated with telecommunication business directly or indirectly.   An exceptional 35-carat sapphire from Kashmir has fetched $7.3 million at an auction on May 13. According to Christie’s auction house, it is a new world auction record for a Kashmir sapphire, The 35-carat cushion-shaped Kashmir sapphire was sold to an anonymous Asian private bidder for a record $7,357,999. Establishing a world auction record for a Kashmir sapphire at more than $200,000 per carat, Christie’s said. It had been estimated at 3 million to 4 million dollars. The cushion-shaped sapphire ring that sold Wednesday is mounted in gold and set with triangular-cut diamond shoulders and baguette-cut diamonds.

Petroleum dealers in Kashmir valley Monday raised alarm that distribution of petrol and diesel through petrol pumps in Srinagar and other areas in Kashmir was in disarray owing to what they termed shortage of fuel being supplied. In a move to attract filmmakers to the Valley, Jammu and Kashmir government has set up a single window clearance system for granting permission within seven days for shooting movies in Kashmir. “We have established a single window clearance system for film shoots in Kashmir. These permissions will be granted within seven days of application,” Commissioner Secretary Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir government Shailendra Kumar told PTI. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had earlier visited Mumbai to promote the state as a prime tourist destination and shooting location for movies.
