Death toll in soaring heatwave sweeping across India has crossed 1,400, CNN reported.
With temperatures nearing 50C, nearly 12, 00 people have died in the worst-hit state of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Deaths have also been reported in Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat and some other parts of the country.
“The heat wave is likely to subside marginally on Thursday and Friday, when stray dust storms or thundershowers are expected. But maximum temperatures will not fall substantially,” B.P. Yadav, the director of the India Meteorological Department, told the Times of India.
In New Delhi, forecasters believe the high temperatures will continue into next week.
