Police arrests WhatsApp group admins in Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested three WhatsApp group admins for allegedly spreading rumors and fabricated information to mislead the people, police said.

A statement issued to media by a Police spokesperson said that First Information Reports (FIR) under section 66/IT Act bearing numbers 163/2014 in Police Station Budgam, 217/2014 in Police Station Baramulla and 198 /2014 in Police Station Pulwama have been registered.

“The three WhatsApp group admins namely Javed Ahmad, Syed Tahir Bukhari and Raja Hilal from Budgam, Baramulla and Pulwama respectively were booked for airing rumors and fabricated information that could create disturbances and vitiate peace,” the police spokesperson said.

Police said that investigation into various updates and posts that have surfaced on the Whats App and other social Networking sites is going on and more arrests are expected in this regard.
