One civilian was killed today when a shell in Tosa Maidan exploded near Shehar village firing area.
Bilal Ahmad Paray, married ten months ago, from Magam, Kashmir was walking when he stepped over the shell which exploded, killing him on spot. The Station House Officer, Khaag, Mohammad Aslam confirmed the death. “I am rushing to the spot. One person has died. For further details, contact the senior superintendent of police, Budgam,” Aslam told The Kashmir Walla over phone.
Bashir’s body is still lying in the village, 25 kilometers away from his hometown. Locals in the area are protesting against the killing.
“We have requested the government to search the area for more shells or explosives but no such thing has been done yet. The government is not paying any heed to our requests. Innocent people are getting killed here due this,” said Dr. Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, chairman of the Tosamaidan Bachov Front (TBF).
Tosa Maidan is in the southern Kashmir – a firing range for the past 62 years for army and airforce. The land was given to army on lease which ended on April 18 this year, and the locals have been protesting against extension of the lease.
According to the reports more than 63 people have been killed so far due to shells.
