Clashes lead to Amarnath Yatra suspension

Amarnath yatara was suspended, Friday, morning when clashes broke out at Baltal area of central Kashmir’s Gandarbal district following the attack on a pony walla by a cook last night.

Official sources told The Kashmir Walla that Nabi Khan, 24, son of Sardar Khan, a pony walla, was attacked by a cook and was beaten up ruthlessly when he was sleeping inside a tent. He was injured seriously and was taken to a nearby hospital immediately where from he was shifted to SKIMS, Soura, for special treatment.

Early morning when the news spread among the locals, they came out of their houses and started throwing stones at the vendors who are believed to be the supporters of the cook. Reports said that police swung into action and used tear smoke shells on the protesters who were protesting it.

Meanwhile additional policemen were sent on the spot to maintain law and order in the area where the incident took place, however Amarnath yatra was not resumed till last reports came in.
