Kashmir: Govt lifts SMS ban

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday lifted the text messaging ban on prepaid mobiles with immediate effect, an official said. The ban was imposed in 2010 during the mass protests in which more than 120 civilians were killed by the government forces.

The official added that the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah,  has ordered to revoke the restriction on text messaging to the prepaid cellphones.

The Chief Minister had earlier asked people to give him feedback on what went wrong with the current government, through email. “The subscribers of pre-paid cell phones had made requests to the Chief Minister in this regard and he issued instructions to the concerned agencies to lift the said restriction,” the official added.

Sources say that the government is considering to take more decisions in response to other requests made by the people.
