In yet another attempt to castigate the state government over hanging of Afzal Guru and subsequent non-return of the body to his family, Member of Legislative Assembly from Lanagte, Engineer Abdul Rasheed today accused it of failing to show concern and sincerity in dealing with the Afzal Guru issue. He alleged that the legislature is being used to strengthen India’s stand on Jammu Kashmir.
According to a statement issued here, as soon as house began its proceedings in the morning, Er Rasheed got up from his seat and asked the coalition government to open its eyes and see how Tamil Nadu assembly is pleading case of Tamils living in Sri Lanka .
He said that Tamil Nadu assembly has yet once again made history though one may differ with its objectives by passing a resolution in the assembly yesterday calling Sri Lanka as unfriendly country and also not allowing Lankan cricketers to play in IPL in Tamil Nadu as a mark of protest against alleged human rights violations against Tamils.
Er Rasheed asked the legislators ‘to ask their conscience if they have ever even thought of taking a queue from Tamil Nadu assembly and dared to speak for their oppressed people’. He said that state legislators have completely let down people by not being first able to save innocent Afzal from murder and then not daring even to pass a resolution to seek the mortal remains of Shaheed Afzal Guru. “They all stand exposed and the sequence of incidents has proved that not only their conscience but their hearts are also like dead rocks,” the statement added.
He lashed out on Jammu based MLAs who were pressing hard for passing a resolution to condemn Pakistan for allegedly subjecting Chemil Singh’s to torture. He said that it is unfortunate that instead of thanking Pakistan government for returning body of Chamel Singh and condemning India for murdering Afzal in a mysterious way they are purely arguing on communal lines. Er Rasheed asked Jammu based MLAs that when they blame Pakistan of interference in India’s internal affairs why don’t you ask India what it is doing with its neighbors like Pakistan , Nepal, Maldev, Burma and Bangladesh.
