The Jammu and Kashmir Government has ordered a magisterial probe into the Watergam, Sopore firing incident, while an FIR has been lodged against the concerned unit of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The incident took place on February 10, when a contingent of 92 Bn CRPF allegedly opened fire on protestors at Watergam, Sopore in which several youth were injured, one among whom namely Ober Ahmed later died at Shere Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) here.
While confirming that a probe had been ordered into the incident, Minister for Medical Education, who is in charge minister for looking after law and order of Baramulla district, told KNS that action as per rules will be taken against the troopers if found guilty in the probe.
Meanwhile, Sub Divisional Magistrate Sopore, Hanief Balkhi, said an FIR has been lodged against the 92 Bn CRPF at Police Station Dangiwacha. “FIR No 8 of 2013 under section 147, 148, 302 has been lodged against the concerned CRPF unit”, he added.
He said as per preliminary reports, the CRPF contingent had not sought necessary permission before leaving their camp. “Protests and stone pelting had been going on at Watergam, however, it appears the contingent had moved on its own without seeking necessary permission, on which basis we have lodged the FIR.
