Paying tributes to Mohammad Maqbool Butt and other martyrs, Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani, has appealed to mark complete shutdown on February 11. He said the best way to pay tributes to martyrs is to strive for their mission without deviating from it.

In a statement from Delhi, Geelani said, that Maqbool Butt was a pioneer and praiseworthy son, who with his endeavour, not only stood up against the tyranny and forced occupation but also sacrificed his life for the sacred cause. Butt was founder of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front and was hanged by India onFeb. 11, 1984 in Tihar jail, Delhi.

“After29 years of his martyrdom, we as a nation face several serious issues, which demand our immediate attention. Thousands of innocent people have laid their lives and continue to offer the same, since the day Maqbool Butt was awarded death sentence. The people who have presented their precious lives include intellectuals, doctors, engineers, lawyers, students and businessmen and we need to deliberate over whether these martyrs while laying their lives have so for formulated or fixed any specified time period and for the matter, did the martyrs have ever decided to defer their struggle to pave way for participation in meaningless negotiations,” said Geelani.

The Hurriyat Chairman insisted the nation to reaffirm their stand and commitment and added those who are terrified by the power and might of India need not to celebrate the anniversaries of martyrs or pay tributes to them. “It is better to pledge and show commitment for the ongoing movement and unanimously decide to take movement till its logical conclusion”.

Geelani also said that pro-India leaders are creating impediments and hurdles and added that  they as stooges of India are  main cause of differences and division among the nation and different ideologies are being floated by these quaters.

Reiterating his appeal for shut down on Feburuary 11, Geelani said that these activities are symbolic for the movement and convey a message to world that Kashmir as a nation are out rightly against the Indian occupation and are striving to achieve freedom at any cost .

The Guru of violent, fundamentalist terror got his just desserts. Let us hope this makes the Islamist butchers in J&K see sense and brings realization that terror will only beget counter-terror.

Let us hope that the senseless seperatism in J&K comes to an end and this beautiful state becomes a proud, integral part of India.
