Srinagar/Jammu, April 04 – Izhar Wani, Special correspondent AFP passed away here today at SKIMS in Srinagar after brief illness. He was 41. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and parents.
It may be mentioned here that Izhar Wani, who was operated in a Mumbai hospital last year, was again admitted in S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) last week where he died today afternoon. Wani worked in a number of local newspapers before joining the AFP a decade ago.
Meanwhile Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has expressed deep grief over the sad demise of AFP Srinagar Correspondent, Mr. Izhar Wani who passed away here Wednesday afternoon.
In his condolence message, the Chief Minister conveyed his sympathy and solidarity to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul. He described the demise of the young journalist as a great loss to the journalist fraternity and the society.
Political Advisor to the Chief Minister Devender Singh Rana in statement issued here today has condoled the sad and untimely demise of Izhar Wani Special Correspondent (Bureau Chief) Agency France Press (AFP), Srinagar.
In his condolence message Rana said that Jammu and Kashmir has lost a talented young journalist and the void created by his death will be difficult to be filled in.
Rana expressed his deep sorrow and grief to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul and courage to the family to bear this irreparable loss.
The Director Information, Khwaja Renzushah, has expressed shock and grief over the demise of renowned journalist of the state Izhar Ahmed Wani. Izhar Wani was AFP correspondent for Kashmir and has a long and prominent standing in the field of journalism.
Chairing a condolence meeting attended by the officers and officials of Information Department, the Director recalled the work and contribution of Mr Wani in the field of Journalism and said that state journalism has suffered a great setback in his death.
The Director Information extended his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
Journalists and media organizations have also expressed grief over the demise of Mr Wani.
In another condolence meeting held under the Chairmanship of President, Non-Gazetted Employees Union Information Department, Kashmir Division, Showkat Ahmad Khan was held here today to condole the demise of Izhar Wani.
The Union members expressed their sympathy with the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace to the departed soul and endurance to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
The functionaries of the department in various condolence meetings organized at divisional level and participated by senior officers and officials showed sympathy with the bereaved family and prayed for the peace to the departed soul.
