Srinagar, December 31: Separatist leaders and members of civil society today termed Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai as ‘man of peace’ and the ‘ambassador of oppressed people of Kashmir.’
A day long seminar titled ‘Diplomatic Front of Movement and Dr G N Fai’ was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front to commemorate 18th death anniversary of Prof Abdul Ahad Wani, who was killed by unidentified gunmen on 31 December 1993 at Kashmir University.
Speakers on the occasion paid glowing tributes to Wani and his services which he rendered for the people of the state.
Chairman JKLF, Mohammad Yasin Malik said that Prof Wani was on the forefront on the onset of freedom movement in Kashmir. “A US army general once said that if 15 people like Wani get birth it will bring revolution throughout the world. He is alive in our hearts,” Malik said in his speech while paying homage to Prof Wani.
On Dr Fai’s contributions and arrest in US, he said, “He (Fai) worked for the Kashmir cause in US. I found him very good human being and a sincere person. He believed Kashmir issue needs to be settled in the peaceful means. He never supported extremism but always supported moderate views. I appeal to the US government, without confronting their judicial system that they must show lenient way towards Fai,” Malik added.
Noted columnist, Abdul Majeed Zargar said that the label of ISI agent on Fai has been withdrawn by America. “We express full faith on the judicial system of America,” he said.
Dr Zaffar Mehdi in his speech said, “Dr Fai was our ambassador there (USA) and we all stand with him against his arrest and charges.”
He also paid homage to the Prof. Wani who sacrificed his life for the sake of freedom.
Chairman National Front, Nayeem Ahmad Khan said that Prof Wani was a man of vision and dedication and played an important role for the Kashmir cause. “We should take the oath to take his mission to its logical end,” Khan said.
He also said that G N Fai has played a prominent role on the diplomatic level. “Dr Fai became victim of confrontation between ISI and USA agencies. We should pass a resolution and send it to USA that Fai was a man of peace,” he added.
Senior JKLF leader, Showket Ahmad Bakshi read out a letter from Amanullah Khan, the JKLF supremo in Pakistan.
Social activist, Kumar Wanchoo said that it is unfortunate for the society that they could not took their mission forward for which they rendered sacrifices. “How many came out on streets to show anger and resentment when Fai was arrested,” he said.
Chief spokesperson of JKLF from other side of the Line of Control addressed over phone and termed Dr Fai as ‘man of peace’ and paid glowing tributes to Prof Wani.
Moulana Abass Hussain Ansari, Chairman Itehad-ul-Muslimeen, Mian Abdul Qayoom, President Kashmir Bar Association, Dr Altaf Ahmad, Historian Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Iqbal and Prof Rehman Rahee were also present on the occasion. (KNS)
