Showkat Maqbool Moon, a reporter was caught today by Jammu and Kashmir police for demanding money from a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer in North Kashmir.
Maqbool, son of Mohammad Maqbool Moon resident of Noorbagh Baramulla, working with New Today news agency was arrested in a dramatic way by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station, Sheeri, after the CRPF official lodged a written complaint with the police station. A police official said that they recovered 5000 rupees from his possession.
Concerned SHO says “Showkat was making threatening calls to Assistant Commandant, D-coy of 129 BN CRPF, Harsh Tripathi, based in Baramulla. Showkat was demanding 30000 rupees from the officer for not publishing his name in a news report that said that the officer and his men had thrashed patients and their attendents on July 19”.
He further says, “The officer persuaded Showkat to take the money in installments, which he agreed to, and after that a place near petrol pump was decided for transaction. SHO, Sheeri was informed, who laid a trap and arrested Showkat moments after he had received Rs 5000 from the CRPF officer”.
A case FIR No. 26/2011 U/S 392, 386, 506 RPC has been registered in police station, Sheeri and investigation under the supervision of Inspector Bashir Ahmad have been set in motion.
