Photos by Muhabit-ul-Haq Sonamarg is a popular tourist destination of Kashmir. It is situated at 87 kilometres north-east of Srinagar and at an altitude of 3,000 metres above sea level.  Sonamarg means ‘meadow of gold’. It has snow-capped mountains against a cerulean sky. Ponies can be hired for the trip up to Thajiwas glacier which is a major attraction during the summer months. From Sonamarg, trekking routes lead to the Himalayan lakes of Vishansar, Krishnasar and Gangabal.
